25/05/10 - EU courts affirm the classification of nPB

EU courts affirm the classification of nPB as already valid in Directive 2004/73/EC of 29 April 2004: JUDGEMNET OF THE COURT (Second Chamber) of 15 October 2009:….it classifies n-propyl bromide as a highly flammable substance (R11) and toxic for reproduction in category 2 (R60)¹ Thus, nPB as a CMR substance is a potential target for REACH authorization.

 ¹Directive 2004/73/EC – Directive 67/548/EEC in Case C – 425/08 on Environment and consumer protection – Classification, packaging and labeling of n-propyl bromide as a dangerous substance.

05/04/10 - Trichloroethylene - the going gets tougher

The latest market information is that the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) have invited comments by 22 April 2010 on eight chemicals including Trichloroethylene as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) and possible candidates for authorisation.

Time is running out!

For users of Trichloroethylene the time is drawing ever closer when supply in drums becomes a REAL problem.

The Manufacturers and Legislation CHARTER – Industry Voluntary Commitment – stipulate that they will no longer supply Trichloroethylene after the end of 2009, for use in open top degreasers.

Supply in drums, smaller containers and large metered bulk deliveries will also become a problem and as volumes drop then the viability of bulk purchases becomes non viable.

Supplies of Trichloroethylene WILL be available now and in the future in Safehandling containers, namely SAFE-TAINER™, supplied by SIS Chemicals.
