Atlas Copco Filters & How They Can Reduce Contaminants

Dirty compressed air can harm your tools, production processes, and final products. Atlas Copco filters offer top-quality filters designed to reduce contaminants like dust, water, and oil vapour in compressed air systems.

Prior to Atlas Copco’s new inPASS(tm) technology, servicing your filter meant halting production or installing expensive 3-valve bypasses around each filter—but now service can be performed without interruption to production!

inPASS ™ bypass technology

Filters are essential components in any compressed air system, yet they are often overlooked. Filters protect tools, production processes, and end products from dirt, water, and oil contamination while simultaneously saving money by decreasing energy and maintenance costs. Atlas Copco offers filters like the UD+, DD+/PD+, DDp+/PDp+, and QD+ with cutting-edge features to do just this.

Up until now, servicing filters required shutting down an entire compressor or installing three-valve bypasses around each filter. Now with inPASS ™, bypass technology re-directs air flow directly through the filter head during maintenance to facilitate cartridge replacement without disrupting airflow, saving installation and operating costs as well as keeping production on schedule.

Atlas Copco offers innovative filtration methods and media designed to optimise air quality, such as wrapping filter elements around wet dust particles to capture wet dust or rust particles or pleated elements for solid particles and microorganisms. Incorporating macro-structured activated carbon to remove oil vapours as well as high-efficiency glass fibre Nautilus technology to reduce pressure drop across filters In addition, their new UD+, DD+/PD+, and DDp+/PDp+ filters feature user-friendly service indicators that display running hours, differential pressure status, and maintenance status (and send remote alerts);, making it easy to monitor filter performance as well as plan the optimal time for maintenance.

Service indicator

An integrated service indicator monitors the differential pressure of Atlas Copco filters. Once their differential pressure exceeds a set threshold, a warning signal is activated, and replacement should be considered necessary; additionally, this system may send remote alarm notifications.

This feature eliminates the need to install 3-valve bypasses for each filter and interrupt production to perform maintenance, saving both installation and operating costs while providing top performance and reliability.

Air purity is of utmost importance in many applications. Air must be free from even the tiniest particles such as sand, salt, and sugar grains; black carbon; rust; cement and paint particles; microorganisms; hydrocarbon vapours; and more. At Atlas Copco, we have developed filter types, processes, and media that meet this criteria in order to offer various grades of cleanliness for any specific application needs.

Once impact values have been defined, they can be transformed into service indicators and reason codes to create mass assignments. Administrators with proper security can then assign service indicators to individuals before withdrawing them when restrictions no longer apply; for example, if you wanted to restrict access for students who did not complete classes, running a run control that mass assigns service indicators could easily restrict certain services such as check cashing privileges, enrollment verification, transcript holds, gym access, front-of-line services, etc.

Specialised filtration methods and media

Filtration methods and media exist for every purpose imaginable, such as surface filtration using pleated or spun-bonded filter medium that increases in density across its depth, so larger particles remain on one side while smaller ones pass through freely in the center, leaving behind filter cake that can then be extracted from process streams for disposal. This technique offers efficient filtering when liquid streams contain gelatinous solids.

Cold filtration is an effective means of extracting oil, fatty acids, proteins, and organic compounds from solutions at lower temperatures. It utilises multi-layer filter media with low porosity and permeability that retain large solids due to their ability to retain large solids compared to sieve separation of particles; multi-layer filters retain particles too large to pass through their tortuous channels and remain within their system.

As compressed air that contains dirt particles, oil aerosols, or water drops poses a threat to equipment and end products, Atlas Copco provides top-grade oil coalescing filters that effectively filter them out. To help your operations continue to meet stringent quality standards, Atlas Copco provides top-of-the-line filters that eliminate these contaminants efficiently.

The DDp+ and PDp+ filters utilise Nautilus oil coalescing technology to effectively remove wet particles. Their durable stainless steel cores, epoxy-sealed caps, and filter housing with anti-corrosive coating ensure longevity under working pressures of up to 350 bar. They guarantee high air purity levels at working pressures up to 350 bar.

Coalescing filters

Coalescing filters are used to effectively separate water and oil vapor from compressed air by employing small pores that coalesce and trap liquid droplets together into larger drops, which then pass through filter media without being reintroduced back into compressed air, providing an ideal environment for ISO classes requiring high levels of cleanliness. These filters make an excellent addition for ISO classes with strict hygiene requirements.

The DD+ and PD+ oil coalescing compressed air filters are specifically designed to offer top air purity at an economical price point while meeting today’s stringent quality standards. They efficiently eliminate oil aerosol, wet dust, and water drops from your compressed air system while protecting its compressor element, equipment, and end products from harm.

These filters are built for high levels of durability with stainless-steel cores and epoxy-sealed caps made from epoxy resin, as well as featuring an hour metre that tracks running hours and differential pressure, plus a built-in bypass that lets you change filters without interrupting air flow.

The UD+ oil coalescing compressed air filter stands out in the market by combining two filtration steps into one product for maximum energy savings and reliability. Utilising Nautilus-wrapped filter technology, this innovative oil coalescence filtration solution boasts lower pressure drops than pleated filters while offering energy savings as well.
